English:

We are back in Morocco, was Lisas comment when we had driven a few kms in Albania. And yes, after we have declared Europe a bit too predictable and boring, then Albania reminds us a little about Morocco. Old Mercedes cars, a distinct smell of garbage, animals and fire, plus a lot of people and animals on the roads.

The southern part is very beautiful. We took a walk in Vlorë, where Lisa wanted to buy a handbag. In the store we met a 23 year old girl, Visa, she was very interested in us and Denmark, and it was touching to hear her story about how poor the country is. She told us that she is dreaming of fleeing to England, maybe hidden in a trunk of a car, to start a new life. It’s hard to understand for two spoiled Danes…

There is a lot of bunkers hidden in the landscape, this one was at our wildcamp site on Mount Cika in 1100 m altitude, beautiful view.

Greece

Travels and Travel plansPosted by raredog.dk Thu, April 21, 2016 11:00:23

Greece has a lot of beautiful nature and nice beaches with blue water. We wandered around In Igoumenitsa and of course we had Ouzo, Tzatziki and Gyros :-)

As we came back to the car, a guy asked if he could see the inside. He told us that he was looking for an adventure truck and it was just like he wanted it. He asked if we would join him and his family for dinner, unfortunately we just had dinner, but we agreed that it would be nice with a glass of fresh lemonade. We got into his car and 5 min. later we stopped at their place. Christof and Sara just had a little boy, Nicholas. It only took a few minutes to realize that they are really nice people, but hearing impaired, so we ended up having dinner with them :-)

When we left, a tourist bus had doubleparked behind us, Morten didn’t see its mirror as it was mounted to high to bee seen in the Volvos mirrors. When plastic meets Volvo, plastic looses! It resulted in an angry bus driver and a call to the Police. They wrote a report and told us to meet at the Police station the following morning.

Christof and Sara gave us directions to a beach, 30 kms south. It was hard to find, we squeezed Viola through a small gap in the bushes and drove down a steep slope between olive trees, but there it was. Small and intimate, in a bay with mountains on both sides.

The next day we drove to the Policestation, they told us that it would take at least 3 days to type in the report! Luckily we convinced them to send it by mail.

Ferry go round

Travels and Travel plansPosted by raredog.dk Sun, April 17, 2016 05:18:51

English:

On the ferry to Igoumenitsa, Greece.. We needed the money for the rest of the trip, so we didn't pay for a cabin, we might end up using the money on a chiropractor instead...

In the harbor in Bari there was a burnt out ferry, the Norman Atlantic, it wasn't exactly good night reading to Google it and the MS Estonia!

The shower!

Travels and Travel plansPosted by raredog.dk Sat, April 16, 2016 21:47:30

Truck Stops are usually ok places to get a hot shower, but this time it got a bit awkward! Morten asked at the counter, but he didn’t understand English, at the end he did understand that I wanted a douche. He yelled something at his college and everybody turned around and looked at me. The guy had a strange smile on his face and with his too perfect half-long hair, too tight shirt and his diamond-earrings he cat-walked in front of me and told me to come! He showed me the shower and asked me to turn on the water while he messed with some box. Then he asked me to take my clothes off so he could turn on the hot water… We agreed upon that I closed the door and knocked on it when I was ready to shower – alone!

Run flat tires!

Travels and Travel plansPosted by raredog.dk Sat, April 16, 2016 21:43:53

English:

We never had a flat before on our trips, not in the Suzuki and also never in the Volvo, but now we got a puncture for the third time this trip! By the way it costs 10x as much to get a tire fixed in Italy than in Morocco...

Nå men det var vel også noget at fejre.../Third time is the lucky number, so we celebrated!

Classic Car Race:

Travels and Travel plansPosted by raredog.dk Sat, April 16, 2016 21:30:04

English:

On a fuelstation a Italian beauty came driving, with the even more beautiful sound of an American V8! It’s a rare combination, so we had to talk to them. It was Lisa and her husband from Florida, USA, they had the car shipped by plane to Italy to participate in a Classic Car Race. Nice people with a really nice Cunningham C-3 with a 331 CUI Hemi V8! There was only 20 coupes and 5 convertibles made back in ’53-’54 so it is a pretty rare car. We took pictures of their car and vice versa – their son is a fan of “The Walking Dead” series :-)

They had more cars and he immediately recognized the ’32 Ford Hotrod on Mortens Raredog T-Shirt - they have one just like it :-)

Dannebrog and more zombies!

Travels and Travel plansPosted by raredog.dk Sat, April 16, 2016 21:14:36

English:

We were driving along some small roads and came to a small city named Amandona, suddenly the Danish flag was all over the place!

We parked and saw a big banner with “Vostrup Efterskole” We went to a café and tried to talk to the waiter, but he couldn’t speak English, but then sleepy, zombie-like teenagers started to appear and we asked them what it was all about. The answered that every year the two cities invited each other and they were there to perform a dance and music show. When they started to explain us what Stomp is, we had to remind them that we are not THAT old!

Italy

Travels and Travel plansPosted by raredog.dk Sat, April 16, 2016 20:51:41

Ikke alle vores camping-steder er i flot natur/not all our camp-sites are in nice nature...

English:

The Italian border: The police stopped us. The officer looked at the car and with a very serious face asked ”What mission are you on?” It was pretty hard to figure out if he was making fun or not, but Morten answered “We are hunting zombies” Stoneface just stood there, then he looked at the logo and said “Credo Elvem Etiam Vivere? Its latin?” And Morten explained that it means “I think Elvis is alive” – it didn’t make any difference to his pokerface. He wanted all our papers on the car, insurance and passports. While he looked at them a soldier came over (with riffle, bulletproof west and a funny hat with a feather in it) and said “bleh bleh bleh change?” We got a bit unsure if he was stating that the crew was shifting and we should talk to him from now on or if he was begging for money, but it didn’t seem like a good idea to give him cash, so we said that we didn’t understand. The police officer came back with our papers and asked about our trip and where we had been and then asked if we was Ghostbusters…?! We said “yes yes” and was allowed to drive on, just then it occurred to us that the soldier for fun asked to trade his armored Iveco with the Volvo :-)

Things as stop signs, overtaking forbidden and no parking seems to have no meaning in Italy, the traffic is intense and people are driving fast. But the locals are nice and helpful and more people speaks a little English than in Spain and France.

Once again we got stopped by the police, this time they made a longer rapport and then smiled and said that we should drive slow – they seemed to have understood that we probably wasn’t going to be speeding in that car :-)
